Tandoori Chicken Is Great For Your Metabolism And Delicious

Finding foods we can truly enjoy that make us feel full and are low in calories is definitely important. Avoiding fast foods, sweets and sugary sodas is crucial if we desire to stay at a manageable weight and keep our metabolism in check. There is so much temptation to make unhealthy eating choices and so few delicious healthy alternatives. My favorite low fat food I actually enjoy is tandoori chicken.

What makes tandoori chicken so flavorful is in the way it is cooked. It is traditionally cooked at high temperatures in a clay oven called a Tandoor. Tandoori food is often considered the culinary pride of the people of India, and known as a Punjabi specialty. It is prepared with the greatest of care and the passion for preparation often translates to amazing food. Heat in a tandoor is generated from lit coals at the base of the oven (which has a similar shape to a pot-belly stove). As the food inside it is cooking, its juices drop down onto the hot coals, producing deliciously flavored smoke that is the signature of the tandoor.

You can prepare tandoori chicken for a dinner party or just a snack. Tandoori chicken is fat burning food that will get your metabolism working like a fat burning furnace. It is a truly delectable food you can incorporate into any diet or weight loss program, and once you start losing weight while enjoying this amazing food you might just get addicted! It is a happy feeling to enjoy spicy and succulent food and taking pride in knowing you will be able to stay in good shape.

To prepare tandoori chicken you should start the day before and prepare the marinade. To make the marinade, take 1 cup of yogurt and add tandoori spice. I used 3 teaspoons, and that made a good flavorful mixture. The original recipe of Tandoori Chicken is marinated in yogurt and seasoned with tandoori masala. The spices tend to make the food moderately hot but the heat is toned down to a mild taste level in most Western places.

Once your marinade is ready, you will need to rinse and clean your chicken pieces. Fork the chicken pieces as this will help the marinade absorb into the chicken. Place in the plastic bag, and add in the marinade. Ideally, you will want to let the chicken marinade overnight, but letting it sit for 4 hours should produce a delicious flavor in your tandoori chicken. The chicken just gets better if it has the opportunity to marinate overnight. Cover the bowl you use with saran wrap or aluminum foil before placing in the refrigerator.

After you have successfully made tandoori chicken there is so much you can do with the left overs. You could make a spicy tandoori chicken salad or a healthy and rib sticking soup. Make a delicious sandwich with whole wheat bread or mix the chicken with a whole grain rice. The possibilities are endless, and they are all low in calories! I hope you realize how wonderful tandoori chicken can be and how fun it can be to make. Here is to you and eating healthy!

When cooking tandoori chicken it is best to use a clay tandoor oven. If you want to use traditionally made tandoor ovens, check out Ron Levy's website. He makes traditionally made tandoori ovens that will make delicious tandoori chicken.
